State Treasurer candidate Meghann Adams calls for mass protests in LA at the “Summit of the Americas”
Meghann Adams, candidate for California State Treasurer spoke out regarding the upcoming “Summit of the Americas” to be hosted by the Biden Administration in Los Angeles, on June 6-10.
“They are calling this the “Summit of the Americas,” however they have refused to invite all countries of the Americas including Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua,” she stated. “No American countries should be excluded from discussing the future of the Americas. The U.S. rulers, in true colonialist fashion, continue to act like the dictators of the hemisphere deciding who gets heard and who does not.”
Meghann will be joining a counter event called the People’s Summit for Democracy, and called on all her supporters to join her there. The counter summit is being organized by grassroots activists and organizations committed to uplifting the voices of poor and working people across the hemisphere.
“My campaign calls for a foreign policy based on solidarity, friendship and cooperation with the countries and peoples of the world, in place of imperialist domination and exploitation,” she continued.
“The U.S. is in no place to dictate policy to begin with. Despite residing in the wealthiest state in the U.S., more than one-third of Californians today live below or near the poverty line. More than 13 million people – including millions of children – struggle everyday just to meet their most basic needs. All of these living conditions have been exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic and Californians, like so many millions of people across the U.S., are struggling to recover from the social and economic devastation.
“At the same time, the U.S. is attempting to suffocate the progressive governments of Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua through crippling economic sanctions that have directly and indirectly killed so many people in these countries. The U.S.’ economic war on these countries have affected their abilities to fight against COVID-19 as well.
“In spite of widespread suffering, the regime in Washington – made up of Democrats and Republicans alike – has diverted more than $50 billion in new spending away from programs to meet the needs of the people and into war in Ukraine. This funding comes on top of an obscene annual real military budget of more than one trillion dollars, $1,000,000,000,000. The intervention by the U.S. and its NATO allies threatens to turn the Ukraine war into a world war with unimaginable consequences for the people and the planet. The massive and adventuristic U.S. build-up as part of the “Pivot to Asia” against China, poses another grave danger to the world.”

The Adams is campaign not funded by corporate donors, real estate developers, or oil lobbyists. We are funded by the people. We run grassroots campaigns built by people power, organizing movements for justice, and fighting to envision a socialist future. We must work hard to cover many expenses involved at every step of the process in a system that serves to shut out working class candidates for office.
We must rely on our supporters – people we’ve met in the streets while fighting for justice, groups we’ve coordinated demonstrations and actions with, communities who have mobilized alongside us to take up the call to action – we need your support!
